Why a Grasshopper?

My Mother Molly always had this brass Grasshopper in the house as long as I can remember. It was always displayed on the mantle of the fireplace so everyone could see it.  Because of this, I decided a "Grasshopper" would be our icon for fighting this disease.  I was also very surprised to find out what the meaning was behind the Grasshopper.

Grasshoppers can gather in millions and even billions.  Grasshoppers can only jump forward, not backward or sideways.  Grasshoppers take risks,  live by instinct,  leap over obstacles and represent Fearlessness,  Courage,  Opportunistic,  Achievement,  Patience,  Stability,  Insightfulness,  Optimism,  Creativity and the love of a challenge.

We wanted to design an icon that would remind everyone what Dementia and Alzheimer's does to a person, but also wanted the icon to represent how the person was before the disease took over.

It should also remind the Caregivers to always jump forward, not backward or sideways to get through your struggles in life. You're not alone. The support group that Molly has gathered will always be here for you.

This is my Mother's actual signature "Molly" under the Grasshopper.

A heartfelt thanks to everyone involved in Molly's Movement for your time, consideration, love and passion, always moving forward and making a difference every day. We can only jump forward, not backwards or sideways.
